THE COMMENTARY
LYRICS
i hear you in my heart
i hold you with my eyes
i reach to catch your breath
to capture your surprise
i dance with you alone
i help rehearse your part
i steal away to say
through every silent day
i hear you in my heart
i feel you wanting
i can hear you pause, hesitate
wearing breathless eyes
just a shade behind, just a shadow late
i, i move to your rhythm
and though we have to dance apart
in my silent way
i always hear you in my heart
i hear you in my heart
i I feel you wanting
i hold you with my eyes
i can hear you pause, hesitate
i reach to catch your breath
wearing breathless eyes
to capture your surprise
just a shade behind, just a shadow late
i dance with you alone
i, i move to your rhythm
i help rehearse your part
and though we have to dance apart
i steal away to say
in my silent way
through every silent day
i always hear you in my heart

Behind the Song

I originally imagined I Hear You in My Heart as a duet...
...but had never recorded it. One day I was reading the book Every Song Ever and the author explored the idea of a super slow song. I realized I had this song and pulled it out to see how slow I could make it. This isn’t as slow as it was when I started, but it is the right tempo.
After reviewing, rethinking, and rewriting the song, I decided to use a piano and string arrangement, for something different. I do think it could work as a duet, but as I put down my vocal on both voices, initially for position, I realized that this could just as easily be the same person singing the interleaved parts. I liked it so I left it that way.
Thank you to Peter Harris for coming in and playing a very delicate and special guitar part.
