LYRICS
stay away
stay away, we've got nothing to say
please stay way away from me
i'm rundown
weary
shaken from my dreams
it's sundown
sunday
stay away
stay away, we've got nothing to say
please stay way away from me
i'm broken
leery
shaken in my dreams
unspoken
hearsay
stay away
stay away, we've got nothing to say
please stay way away from me
it's a lie
and it's dangerous
lurking, patient, wrong
like a time bomb
is it true? it's a sorry scene
but I can see you
stay away
stay away, we've got nothing to say
please stay way away from me

Behind
the Song
I wrote the first draft of this song as a slow dirge. It was very depressed. Then I decided...

...to record it, and when I did, I completely rewrote it, using the same lyric, but a completely different piece of music, kind of an ‘80s Thomas Dolby vibe. The meaning stands on its own.
In the final recording I had the idea to put the chorus up front a cappella. The musical idea was to have this really awful message… please stay way away from me … and an indication of very bad behavior on the partner’s part, but to couch it all in beautiful consonant harmony, a sort of consonant dissonance.
Thank you to the Leeg for working with me on this one.
